Artist statement

The Jim Olson in a shady grove My sculptures and paintings are figurative in nature; the abstraction of the images is done in the interest of composition and imagination. I enjoy the use of line and texture as they communicate emotion and connect my hand and personality to the work. Shape and color help me create a sense of character and space. The content considers the interaction of the figure with our human, spirtual and physical environments. For me it is through visual artwork that visions of life and the human condition are most successfully considered. My work reflects the joy in the exploration of the relationships between perception and expression, between experience and meaning.
